The song became the most viewed video on YouTube in July of 2012 (which caused emergency maintenance of the website following its foray into 1 billion views), having currently over 2.7 billion views and 12 million likes. "Gangnam Style" was the most viewed video on YouTube up until mid-2017.
July 15th 2016 was the fourth-year anniversary of "Gangnam Style"'s upload onto YouTube. In celebration of the event, rips were themed around PSY and "Gangnam Style" on that day.
On July 10th 2017, Triple-Q, tweeted an image of "Gangnam Style" losing its position as most viewed video to Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again feat. Charlie Puth", which was closely trailed by "Despacito' by Luis Fonsi. The following day, Triple-Q announced he was taking submissions for his latest album GANGNAMCORE 3 & Knuckles: The Weight Oppa World. On July 15th 2017, the SiIvaGunner channel began another "Gangnam Style" event starting with "The Sun Rises - Ōkami". President Haltmann would later Tweet about Triple-Q's album, which was released an hour before the rip "The Weight of the World - NieR: Automata" was uploaded.
On August 2nd, 2017, "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi beat "Gangnam Style" in views, leaving "Gangnam Style" to be the 3rd most popular.
As of September 9th, 2018, it is currently the 6th most viewed on YouTube.
